CBBC iPlayer

Cimex welcomes today’s launch of the CBBC iPlayer, a project it was commissioned to conduct usability testing for using cutting edge eye tracking facilities.

Designed for children aged 6 to 12 years old, the CBBC iPlayer allows access to shows like MI High and Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The service is different to BBC iPlayer in that it keeps text based navigation to a minimum for younger users.
During the usability study of CBBC iPlayer, we conducted user testing with eye tracking on the prototype using both parents and children aged 6-12 years old.

Assessing the navigation of key pages along with the overall look and feel, we found a number of issues for optimisation - such as the need to give children the means to find their way back to the CBBC iPlayer homepage without ending up in the main BBC iPlayer homepage.
