Acclaimed film director Sir Alan Parker has highlighted the success of after schools initiative, Film Club.

The Film Club website was developed by Cimex to be an engaging introduction for children into the vast and imaginative world of film.

Sir Alan, head of the Film Council and chairman of the BFI, talks about the initiative in an article appearing in the Guardian newspaper (6th June 2008):

‘By way of an interactive website, schools can access 60,000 films from the archive of the web specialists Lovefilm - film titles that teachers and pupils can select on a weekly basis,’ says Parker. ‘Encouraged by almost every facet of the film community and generously backed by government, it is hoped that within three years Filmclub will reach 7,000 schools. That’s a lot of films and an awful lot of dreams.’

The success of the Film Club initiative among children was also highlighted in The Times newspaper, detailing its close links with the UK film industry. Schools involved have so far had visits from Rosamund Pyke, Thandie Newton, Kevin MacDonald and wealth of leading make-up artists, composers and film electricians. Alan Rickman, Sienna Miller and Lord Attenborough are also scheduled to visit schools in the near future.
