New poverty support for the Social Care sector
15 May 2008
Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has partnered with Cimex to develop a new set of inspirational and fully accessible e-learning resources, dealing with poverty, parenting and social exclusion in the UK.
The resources introduce the key concepts around what poverty is in the UK today, what social workers may come across in their day to day work, and what their responsibilities are to improve situations for families in poverty.
All are suitable for those studying towards or teaching the Social Work degree, practising social workers, carers and people in poverty themselves.
SCIE’s aim is to improve the experience of people who use social care by developing and promoting knowledge about good practice in the sector. The organisation develops resources which are shared to empower service users, using knowledge gathered from diverse sources and a broad range of people and organisations.
Building upon Cimex’s earlier work on the Law and Social Work project and the Introduction to the Mental Health of older people resources, the agency’s creative solution maximises effectiveness by appealing to different learning styles utilising a full range of media and levels of interactivity.
Using audio, video and interactive technology, the resources aim to make complex and problematic topics more accessible, engaging and enjoyable for users.
The success of the project hinges on a close collaboration between SCIE, the subject experts and the Cimex user experience team, who employed a user centred design approach.
