Food and Drink Federation site revamped

25 July 2007

Cimex has collaborated with the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) to help communicate positive messages about the food and drink manufacturing industry via a revamped website.

Focusing on the site’s usability, access to information and engagement with users, the digital agency redeveloped the website utilising a user centred design (UCD) approach with the intent to reinforce FDF’s position as a professional centre of excellence able to respond rapidly to changing agenda.

A successful food and drink sector is a vital component of a healthy UK economy. It directly employs over 500, 000 people, with an additional 1.2 million employed in ancillary services. The sector accounts for 15% of the UK’s total manufacturing sector by value and is an invaluable partner to British agriculture, buying two-thirds of what farmers produce.

FDF represents the interests of the UK’s food and drink manufacturing industry, helping its members operate in an appropriately regulated marketplace to maximise their competitiveness. Members include manufacturers, big and small, as well as trade associations representing specific sectors of the industry.

The Federation communicates the industry’s values and concerns to Government, regulators, consumers and the media. It also works in partnership with key players in the food chain to ensure food is safe and credible with consumers. The industry plays a major role in British life - it is a dynamic, forward-looking and responsible sector and FDF wanted to use the website to reflect this message.

‘Cimex produced a fresh, contemporary and professional design which reinvigorated the existing brand without embarking on a radical change and acknowledged that the site handles high levels of information and has very little imagery to work with. Colour coding was intelligently applied to support smart navigation features that helped the user find their way around the site,’ said Catherine Tidnam, FDF Web Manager.
