Whether in the studio, at home, or online, every viewer will feel that the TMi is their new best friend.

Cimex helps BBC to create dynamic TV/PC experience

03 October 2007

Cimex has collaborated with the BBC to develop a combined TV and PC programming venture with the launch of a twin-screen experience on Children’s BBC.

The BBC’s twin-screen approach aims to engage viewers through their PC and TV simultaneously, with Cimex responsible for creating the online application for the programme.

The interactive chat service features on CBBC’s Saturday morning programme TMi, broadcast between 9.00 and 10.30 am on BBC Two, with a repeat at 5pm on the CBBC channel.

Viewers are encouraged to register at the CBBC website and interact with the presenters during the broadcast.

BBC TMi

How it works

Throughout the series, three presenters compete to see who can get the most friends with viewers registering their choice on the TMi website during the show.

Viewers can only pick one presenter as a friend but after making a choice, they get access to their favourite presenter’s ‘webspace’ for seven days with unique content added and updated throughout the week. Viewers are able to switch allegiance on Saturdays between 9am and 9pm.

The running totals are updated dynamically, revealing who is in the lead throughout the show.

All three presenters attempt to win a viewer’s loyalty during the live show with stunts and forfeits, and also by promoting the exclusive content they provide on the TMi website. They’re also out and about on the campaign trail to recruit more friends to help them spread the word and update their spaces with text messages every day.

Without fully immersing themselves in the world of social networking, the TMi website has been created to reflect popular sites such as Twitter, Bebo, Myspace and Facebook, highlighting the importance of friendship and giving personal access to the presenter’s lives.

This competition forms the backbone of the new TMi series; whoever you are, wherever you are, you can take part and influence the show’s outcome.

Why pick a friend?

By choosing one of the show’s presenters - Sam, Mark or Caroline - as a friend, viewers are able to directly influence events on the show.

After the show has finished, every viewer who’s registered allegiance receives 7 day access to their favourite presenter’s webspace. That webspace is updated throughout the week - with video, photos, games & downloads - encouraging viewers to participate in the TMi experience even when the show is off air.

The show also features celebrity guests, sketches and brand new on-air contests.

So whether in the studio, at home, or online every viewer will feel that the TMi is their new best friend.
