Social Care Institute for Excellence
Cimex developed learning modules which successfully supported social work lecturers, independent learners and existing Social Workers studying the Social Work Degree.
Brief
Law is an important aspect of social work. As an area of particular complexity, it can be challenging to understand. Cimex’s brief was to develop 10 learning modules on the subject of law and social care. The modules were required to support the delivery of learning by social work lecturers, in addition to supporting independent learners studying the Social Work Degree and existing Social Workers.
Solution
Cimex designed modules that are SCORM compliant, which can be freely distributed via a central content repository to be used for learning management systems within Higher Education.
- Cimex worked closely with end users and content experts to develop a set of learning modules which employed a diverse range of media and forms of interactivity
- A series of interactive case studies, scenarios and simulations were created, allowing the user to take on the role of a social worker dealing with a range of complex service users
- Preparing Social Workers for their first court appearance where they are called upon to give expert evidence was a particular challenge. The use of immersive interactivity and expert video advice helps to boost more confidence in first time users or new students
- Whilst the modules were developed in Flash they were built to maximise accessibility allowing users to access content with screen readers, keyboard and switch controls
Result
A relevant and practical resource for social workers that is user-friendly and easy to follow.
