Women step up to the challenge
The second phase of a scheme encouraging women to get jobs in sectors that have traditionally been male preserves has begun. Elizabeth Eyre of the Training Journal talks to Birmingham City boss Karren Brady about her involvement in the initiative.
The workplace is rife with inequality – just a third of managers and senior officials in the private and public sectors are female, and women are seriously under-represented in a number of industry sectors.
The government is trying to address the problem with the two-year Women & Work project, spending £10m on job and training opportunities for 10, 000 women in sectors in which there are skills shortages and women are under-represented.
