Visit London recently embarked on a process of rationalising its public and business facing websites. Cimex was invited to support this process supplying occasional design, IA, usability and web production services.
In 2008, Beijing handed over to London, host city of the 2012 Olympics. With the 2012 Olympics and the re-branding of Visit London (VL), it was decided that the Corporate Media Centre was to have a change of image.
New web properties were required to take advantage of the anticipated media focus on London and Cimex was tasked with developing a new Media Centre which delivered a variety of rich media content assets in a captivating yet clear format.
Cimex developed visually appealing templates which followed brand guidelines and brand identity, all of which were required to make information easily available to time poor media professionals.
One key area of focus was the ease of use of the Olympics 2012 section of the site. VL assumed that Olympic related traffic to their site would primarily be journalists looking for background information to their Olympic stories. It was decided that the site would need to carefully link into the official Olympic site and vice versa in order to direct users to the correct site for their requirements.
Key optimised assets on the site now includes press releases, newsletters, filming guides, general guides, tourism facts and figures, picture libraries and press kits and city guides for media professionals.
Usability and accessibility were key considerations during development. As well as being accessible to disabled users, the website was also designed to support specific target users such as journalists and travel trade professionals.
Supported by the VL Content Management System (Rythmx CMS), the website works with existing off-site asset libraries including Newsmarket and the Visit Britain image library.
Using Prince2 methodology to manage the project, Cimex delivered information architecture and wireframe documentation, design, HTML template pages and assistance with the editorial strategy.
