GOJO

‘As part of a strategic multi-channel campaign, Forster entrusted Cimex to develop the GOJO website to help and encourage young people to use public transport and become more independent. We are thrilled with the results and especially appreciate how the user testing was used to inform the development process throughout,’ Design Project Director, Forster.

Brief

Cimex was commissioned by social change communications consultancy Forster on behalf of the Disability Rights Commission to develop a new website to encourage more young people to use “public transport”/tags/transport.

GOJO is the first nationwide campaign aimed at increasing young people’s confidence using public transport. The campaign was launched in response to the DRC’s research findings, revealing that twice as many young disabled people say they lack confidence using public transport than their non-disabled peers.

Solution

Cimex developed a practical, user-centred website using input from real users at every stage of the process.

Site features include:

  • Practical tips and general information for disabled young people who travel on public transport
  • Sections on rights, empowering users to provide transport companies with feedback if they feel they have been discriminated against under the Disability Discrimination Act
  • Blogs and discussion forums for feedback from users including travel diaires
  • Information on special leisure deals and how to get to local events
  • Accessible maps
  • Options to change site’s background colour and font size

Before the site’s launch the GOJO team encouraged young people, their friends and their families to find out about the issues they face when using public transport. Their experiences and stories now form a key part of the GOJO website.

Cimex was responsible for the user testing, information architecture, design and build of the site.

The GOJO campaign has been launched in five cities across England – Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester and Exeter.
