A new e-commerce platform for Rococo Chocolates

Luxury chocolate retailer asks Cimex to develop their online store and provide a more efficient content management system.

Brief

After delivering a 400 per cent increase in traffic through social media marketing techniques, pay-per-click ad campaigns and optimising existing product summaries for search engines, Cimex was asked to re-develop the Rococo Chocolates online store.

The existing system limited the company’s ability to efficiently market their product range and caused problems when trying to implement a more user-friendly information architecture.

Solution

Following an expert review by the Cimex customer insight team on alternative e-commerce systems, our recommended solution was to use the Magento content management package, which offers retailers a wider range of options to support:

  • product browsing
  • landing page creation
  • seasonal promotions
  • customer product reviews
  • order monitoring
  • traffic and conversion reporting
  • newsletter management

Magento is an open-source e-commerce web application that supports best practice standards in HTML coding and usability, giving Rococo a competitive edge over their competitors in the luxury confectionery market.

The Rococo website now makes it easier for customers and shoppers to:

  • browse by occasion, product category (dark chocolate, alcohol free, organic etc.) and price range
  • view the best-selling and most popular products
  • checkout and pay for their purchase quickly

Cimex also re-photographed in excess of 200 Rococo products, to improve the site’s imagery. Each product is accompanied by multiple high-definition images, and the click-and drag zoom facility gives customers a clearer view of the product before making their decision to purchase.

Result

The improved site was launch on 7 December 2009, to capitalise on the seasonal demand for chocolates and gift ideas.

As a result of optimising the website content and the improved user experience, the online store’s conversion rate tripled when compared to the Christmas period in previous years.

In 2010, Cimex will continue to manage the website’s content, product promotions and social media strategy. We will also continue to improve the organic search ranking of the site, which will lead to a decrease in the amount spent on pay-per-click online ads.

We will also be supporting Rococo to develop and identify opportunities for business growth and increase their brand visibility in the marketplace.
