Apprenticeships

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England. The LSC asked the government’s Central Office of Information (COI) to manage the development of a web site for the newly branded Apprenticeships initiative.

Brief

As part of a major re-branding of the government’s Modern Apprenticeships scheme (now known as Apprenticeships), Cimex was commissioned by the COI to design a web site which drives young people to find out more about the Learning and Skills Council’s Apprenticeships initiative. Impressed by its work on the DCSF need2know youth portal, Cimex was also appointed to produce, edit and upload ‘authentic’ but branded editorial content for the site’s youth audience.

Solution

The website highlighted the achievements of apprentices who had overcome profound obstacles, earning great success and exceeding the expectations of both themselves and their employers. Cimex’s editorial team developed aspirational branded content which successfully engaged young people between the age of 16 and 24 by producing content which pushed the ‘learn while you earn’ benefits of Apprenticeships. Content on the site was supported by lively graphics and video clips of young people finding success on the Apprenticeships initiative. Cimex continues to maintain the site’s editorial using a tailored Microsoft based content management system.

Result

The site was short listed in the ‘best campaign’ category of the Forum Awards, a government awards ceremony which recognises best practice.
