‘The team has been professional, responsive and met the tightest of deadlines,’ Head of Communications: School Food Trust.

‘The School Food Trust is delighted with the work that Cimex has undertaken in developing our new website. The team has been professional, responsive and met the tightest of deadlines,’ Head of Communications: School Food Trust.

After running a competitive tender, the School Food Trust commissioned Cimex to develop an appealing website to offer guidance about the new food standards in schools to head teachers, head cooks, local authority heads of catering, local authority catering staff, parents, children and professional bodies such as trade unions, parliament, media and school governors.

Brief

The School Food Trust was set up in 2005 by the Department for Education and Skills (now Department for Children, Schools and Families) to promote the education and health of children and young people by improving the quality of food supplied and consumed in schools. The goal was to inform audiences and persuade them to adopt a healthier approach.

The brief was to build a website that appealed to both children and parents and supported the Trust’s four key goals:

  • Ensure all schools meet the food-based standards for lunch
  • Increase the uptake of school meals
  • Reduce diet-related inequalities
  • Improve food skills

Solution

Cimex produced an accessible website incorporating:

  • A design look and feel positioned to appeal to a wide range of ethnicities and social backgrounds
  • An adaptable content management system (CMS), which is easy to maintain and update
  • Informative and approachable ‘branded’ content to better reflect the negotiated nature of decisions about food, encouraging users to buy into and become passionate about the Trust’s ‘eat better, do better’ philosophy
  • Information and Guidance that is accessible and grouped together in an intuitive way
  • An extensible site that is scaleable for future development
