‘We were impressed by Cimex’s track record of creating useable websites that are highly accessible and engaging,’ HM Treasury.

Partnering with HM Treasury, Cimex created a fun, immersive online portal to engage the UK public in the Comprehensive Spending Review (2007).

Brief

The key aim of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) is to identify what further investments and reforms are needed to equip the UK’s public services for the global challenges of the decade ahead. HM Treasury commissioned Cimex to develop a web portal that communicates these key aims and messages of the CSR while encouraging the public to contribute their views.

Solution

Cimex developed a website with a strategic information architecture that helps communicate information in a way that empowers users to contribute informed ideas. An interactive tool within the portal also demonstrates how the CSR works, using techniques which are clear, fun, and user-friendly. A Welsh version will also be launched in the near future.

Key features include:

  • An interactive Spending Review tool where the public have the option of changing how the Government budget is allocated. Respondents are fully immersed into the reality of public spending and are able to consider a wider perspective.
  • An educational focus, providing clear and accessible information to the public about where and how public money is currently spent and some of the key challenges that will shape the decade ahead.
  • A consultative tool for the Government to gather the views of the public.
